A Deep Dive into Design Professions: Roles, Skills and Responsibilities.

10

I suppose that the disorganized system of job titles in the design industry is one of the reasons this question even exists. Thus, it’s interesting to see how each person defines the titles that are mentioned here. I would like to add mine as well.

Designer of User Interfaces or UI Designer

This person designs user interfaces, which include any visual layer that gets in the way of a user’s interaction with a product (mainly digital items), as the title pretty much says it all. For this role, a basic grasp of how people interact and use (digital) things is necessary in order to design aesthetically pleasing interfaces that are both practical and simple to use.

User Experience Designer or UX Designer

This one is probably the trickiest, making it difficult to convey to the average person. It is the duty of a user experience designer to ensure that the target consumers’ entire experiences during and after using the product are favorable and aligned with their needs. In order to generate ideas for how target users might use the product, UX designers use mind maps, user journeys, and real-world usage scenarios. This allows them to create solutions that optimize how users achieve their objectives. As a result, their task is to provide a solution to test and validate a number of carefully considered assumptions.

The most crucial phase in the user experience design process is to research the users whose experiences the design is intended to address. To do that, UX designers attempt to gather as much data as they can about the target audiences through quantitative analysis, surveys, interviews, and other means. User data collection is an ongoing, never-ending process. In order to produce insights that will serve as a guide for everyone involved in the product team’s decision-making process, including other stakeholders, UX designers gather and analyze data on a regular basis.

An awareness of psychology and systematic design is essential for a user experience designer, yet they do not always need to be skilled in visual or graphic design.

Website Developer

Web interface designers are experts in creating and designing user interfaces for websites. The majority of web design positions prefer candidates with some knowledge of front-end programming, such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript, in order to demonstrate how the design or prototype will function on a screen. The majority of UX design job descriptions also mention this preference.

“Skill is the bridge between talent and achievement, transforming potential into excellence through dedication and practice.”

Designer of Visual and Graphic Media

Basically, anything that requires an aesthetic sensibility is graphic design. The primary responsibility of a visual designer is to create visually appealing and fashionable designs. Working with items that need to be printed out, such book covers, branding packages, billboards, etc., is the majority of the labor for this function. Not only can a Visual Designer produce stunning digital websites, banners, infographics, and other content, though; they are not simply confined to print media. They excel at making things look nicer at their core.

Designer of Interfaces

This one is similar to UI Designer, in my opinion, with the exception that Interaction Designer focuses more on comprehending human behavior. Given that their work mostly involves the layer that captures user-product interactions, interaction designers need to be skilled at creating intuitive and significant user interfaces. Anything from a washing machine or pen to digital goods like websites and applications could be the product. In addition to making interactions practical and functional, interaction designers also need to make them interesting in order to keep users’ interest and focus.

Product Designer

A product designer is in charge of all aspects of the idea and development process of a product that meets the needs of both the company and the client. Given the many similarities between their employment, I believe there is a good chance that this title will be mistaken for UX Designer. But, as the work of a product designer encompasses more than just user experiences, it differs slightly from that of a UX designer in terms of accountability. The field of product design encompasses a wide range of specialties and fields, including visual, functional, interaction, and packaging design.
